Roman got tickets to a Josh Ritter show with Gregory Alan Isakov opening for me for my birthday.
The show was last night at 8pm and the doors opened at 7pm. We left our house at around 5:30pm, but there was a ton of traffic. We got super lucky and found street parking about 2 blocks from The Fillmore. I was really bummed because we parked at 6:30pm, way later than we usually get in line. But as we turned the corner, we saw that there were only about 15 people in line ahead of us!
We were able to get a spot in the front row, though not center.
Gregory Alan Isakov was absolutely amazing as always. The last time we saw him, his band included: Jeb Bows: violin, Philip Parker: cello, Steve Varney: banjo / guitar, and a girl on drums (couldn't find her name). This time, he just had Jeb Bows and Philip Parker with him.
I told Roman during their performance that I am going to go see them every time they are in the area from now until forever. He likes them too so he's ok with it.
This song is one of my favorites live:
Since I totally wimped out last time, I was determined to get a picture with them this time. Before their set, Roman ran into Jeb Bows and asked how I could get a picture with them later. He told Roman that they would only be staying a little while after their performance and my best shot would be to see them at the merchandise table when they got done.
So after they left the stage, I went and stood awkwardly and alone. When I saw Gregory and Jeb together I went over and asked to take a picture with them. They were so nice and though I'm sure they thought I was a huge dork, they didn't let on. You know the song "Round Here" by Counting Crows? One line is, "She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous." Yeah, me too.
This moment made my night:
It would've been cool to get a picture with all the guys.. maybe next time. They also signed a cd and tshirt for me - but I wish I could've had my guitar somehow for them to sign.
Josh Ritter didn't disappoint either. During one of his songs, Roman said to me, "It looks like he is having so much fun performing." I agreed; the guy is so full of energy and had the hugest smile the whole time. Just look him up on YouTube and you'll see that that seems to be the norm.
"The Curse" - Love this video too.
It was definitely a night I will not forget.
